When Mountain Creek's Lifts Stop, Its November Calendar Becomes a Fundraiser

Mountain Creek's bike park lists its last operating day as Sunday, November 1. No official first day of ski season has been posted. Most of the events Mountain Creek has scheduled for those weeks raise money for someone else. The Ski Swap money goes partly to Ski Patrol. Ullr Fest and the Winter Kickoff raise money for local foundations. The Holiday Market is a Vernon Recreation event held at Cobblestone Village. Most of the reasons to go to Route 94 in November come down to who gets the proceeds.

November 1 Ends More Than Bike Season

The bike park's trail report lists hours through Sunday, November 1, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mountain Creek's Last Run Down falls on the same day, with details still listed as "coming soon." The waterpark page already says "NOW CLOSED FOR THE 2026 SUMMER SEASON."

Fall Fest closes the same weekend. The 4th Annual Fall Fest has run since September 26, and its last dates are October 24 and 25, then October 31 and November 1. It offers sky rides, a mountain coaster package, children's activities and guided hikes. On Halloween, the free Trick or Creek Jump Jam runs from noon to 3 p.m. at Lower Dominion, with an after-party at the Biergarten.

Once that weekend is over, the lifts stop for a while. Until ski season, most of the mountain's events move indoors to its lodges.

Where November's Money Goes

The fundraising starts the night before Halloween. The Hession Foundation's Unmasking Hope Masquerade Gala is Friday, October 30, at Red Tail Lodge, with a 6:30 p.m. cocktail reception. The rest of the calendar sorts out like this:

Date Event Where Who benefits
Fri., Oct. 30 Unmasking Hope Masquerade Gala Red Tail Lodge The Hession Foundation
Wed., Nov. 4 Winter Kickoff film night Mayo Performing Arts Center, Morristown Winter4Kids and The Hession Foundation
Fri.–Sun., Nov. 6–8 Annual Ski Swap South Lodge 20% of sales to Mountain Creek Ski Patrol
Sat., Nov. 14 Ullr Fest South Lodge Event ticket proceeds to The Hession Foundation
Sat., Nov. 21 Holiday Market Cobblestone Village Sponsored by Vernon Recreation

The Winter Kickoff is the one event held off the mountain. Mountain Creek is hosting Teton Gravity Research's new film, "Actually, It Is Rocket Science," at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the film starts at 7. Before the screening, local outdoor groups set up in the lobby and there are prizes and giveaways. The night benefits Winter4Kids and The Hession Foundation. Tickets are sold through the Winter Kickoff event page.

Ullr Fest brings things back to the South Lodge on Saturday, November 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $25, and the proceeds go to The Hession Foundation. The live band is still listed as "Coming Soon." The Gala on October 30 and Ullr Fest on November 14 both raise money for The Hession Foundation, 15 days apart, and the Winter Kickoff in between does too. The calendar also has a Fall Wedding Expo on November 15, the morning after Ullr Fest.

The Ski Swap Shows How the Off-Season Works

Of everything on the November calendar, the Annual Ski Swap has the most rules to know, and it's the clearest case of the mountain acting as a host. Mountain Creek's page says the resort provides "a forum for the public to display and sell their equipment" and does not inspect or test any of it. Sellers set their own prices, buyers check the gear themselves, and Ski Patrol gets a share of every sale.

Here's how the weekend runs at the South Lodge:

  1. Friday, November 6, 1 to 8 p.m. This is the only drop-off window, and the sale opens at the same time. Gear must be clean and in good condition. Clothing should be freshly laundered, with pockets emptied and old lift tickets removed. The resort can turn away items it thinks won't sell.
  2. Saturday, November 7, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale runs all day.
  3. Sunday, November 8, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This is the final sale day and pickup. Anything unsold has to be collected by 3 p.m. After that, it becomes Mountain Creek's property.

Sellers pay a $1 display fee per item. Twenty percent of each sale goes to Mountain Creek Ski Patrol, which the page calls a non-profit ski patrol. Sellers get their payment as a mailed check, along with a letter noting the donation. Buyers should bring cash or a check. Zelle, Venmo and credit cards aren't accepted, but there's an ATM on site.

Put together, the rules favor sellers who can be there Friday afternoon and again Sunday before 3, and buyers who show up with cash. A family selling outgrown kids' gear gives Ski Patrol a fifth of whatever it brings in, and the patrollers working the slopes this winter get that money.

Vernon Recreation's Holiday Market Comes to the Mountain

The township's calendar meets the resort's at the Annual Holiday Market on Saturday, November 21. Vernon Township calls it its own Annual Holiday Market and puts it at Cobblestone Village at Mountain Creek, "across from Red Tail Lodge on Route 94." The township's post promises local vendors and small businesses, food, music and Letters to Santa, and notes that all vendor spaces are full. Mountain Creek's Holiday Market page lists the same day and place, adds Santa photos and handmade gifts, and says the event is sponsored by Vernon Recreation.

The two pages give different hours. The township post says 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Mountain Creek says 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you want first pick from the makers' tables, check with Vernon Recreation before you head over.

The rest of the township's season takes place around town. Paint-a-Pumpkin is Friday, October 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Vernon Senior Center, 21 Church Street. It's free, but registration is required. The township's live calendar has Trick-or-Trail on October 30, 4 to 7 p.m. The recreation page shows a different date, so confirm before you load up the kids. The Turkey Trot 5K is Thanksgiving morning, November 26, from 8 to 10 a.m. Quiet Time with Santa and the Tree Lighting are still listed as "TBD."

There's also a new indoor option this year. McAfee Yarn Shop held its grand opening on October 3 at Colonial Plaza, according to Advertiser News North. The Vernon resident-owned shop sells yarn and craft supplies and runs classes and weekly social stitching nights.

Heaven Hill Farm Outlasts the Mountain's Fall Season

Heaven Hill Farm's Great Pumpkin Festival runs through November 8, a week past Mountain Creek's Fall Fest. Its Trick-or-Treat Trail is October 24 and 25, noon to 3 p.m., with a costume contest Saturday, October 24, at 1 p.m. The farm's event page also repeats older October 31 dates further down. The homepage and the main notice both give October 24 and 25.

The ticket setup is worth knowing before you go. Heaven Hill says the costume contest and seven candy stops outside the festival are open without festival admission, and a festival ticket adds the remaining stops for all ten. A family can do the contest and most of the candy stops for free, and the full trail costs a ticket.

First Chair Has No Date Yet

Mountain Creek's snow report, updated Monday, October 12, says its 2026/2027 passes and multi-visit cards are on sale. It doesn't give an opening day. OnTheSnow's projected openings page lists December 5, and it notes that projected dates are not necessarily official or final. Until the resort posts its own date, the November events are the only fixed dates on the mountain's calendar.

Pass pricing is fixed, though, and the gap between the two season passes comes down to holidays. All Access costs $399.99 plus fees. The Value pass costs $349.99 plus fees and is blacked out December 24 through January 3, January 16 through 18, and February 13 through 16. That $50 difference covers winter break, the mid-January long weekend and the mid-February holiday weekend. Households that ski mainly on those dates would likely use All Access, and households that ski around them would likely save with Value.

Both season passes include uphill access, so passholders can skin or hike up before the lifts open. Hours are sunrise to 9 a.m. on weekdays and sunrise to 8 a.m. on weekends. If you'd rather not commit to a season pass, the Triple Play is three visits for $119.99 plus fees. The Triple Play Plus, at $169.99 plus fees, adds rentals and Terrain Based Learning access.

After the season is underway, the next date already on Mountain Creek's calendar is the Yeti or Not Snowshoe Invasion on January 30, 2027, and registration is open now.

At The Sold Collective, we follow Vernon through all four seasons, including the quiet weeks on the mountain. If you're wondering how being near Mountain Creek fits into a move this winter, book an appointment and we'll go over it with you.
